From The Small Mind & Big Mouth Of Rev. Jerry Falwell
As reported on Meet The Press with Tim Russert (04/02/06):
The reality is that the events of 9-11 were a "faith-based initiative" of a small group of narrow-minded, militant religious zealots who are just like Jerry Falwell in almost every aspect except for the religion being practiced. Our nation was founded in part on the principle that state-sponsored religion was inherently tyrannical.... and Falwell's comments are as demonstrative of that principle as were the perverse religious ideologies of those that caused the events of 9-11.
It is nothing less than complete lunacy to associate the events of 9-11 to gays, pagans, abortionist, feminists or even all Muslims. Let us at least allow some reason to enter our minds... and our national thinking.
...Reverend Falwell had to say [just after 9-11]. “What we saw on [September 11th], as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve. ... I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists and the feminists, and the gays and lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle ... I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen.’”
