AG Gonzalez Sidesteps Senator Shumer's Questions

As AG Gonzalez is answering questions before congress today, he engaged in some serious sidestepping of direct questions. He seemed to get quite upset at Senator Shumer's questions and even sniped back reminding Chairman Specter that the Constitution applies to Congress as well as the president.

Senator Cornyn has attempted to reframe the argument regarding domestic surveillance by stating that if the call goes out of the US or originated outside of the US then it is not domestic surveillance. Is he forgetting that there are 5000 (or more)Americans that have been subject to this surveillance program. In an attempt to avoid the issue, he started questioning the AG on the investigations into leaking of national security matters, including an inquiry as to how the New York Times could be charged for publishing such leaks. Is Cornyn forgetting that there are whistleblowing laws and principles? Has he ever heard of the First Amendment? Does he not realize that those leaks had to come from inside the Bush administration? Has he forgotten the flack over Libby and Rove... and possibly Cheney?

It would appear that this hearing is a waste of time. Let us move on to the impeachment proceedings.
