Attacking Iran May Trigger Terrorism: U.S. Experts Wary of Military Action Over Nuclear Program

As tensions increase between the United States and Iran, U.S. intelligence and terrorism experts say they believe Iran would respond to U.S. military strikes on its nuclear sites by deploying its intelligence operatives and Hezbollah teams to carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.

Why are we in Iraq? Didn't we say that Saddam Hussein was the maniac with WMD? Are we going to see another example of the Bush Doctrine with a pre-emptive strike on Iranian soil? Is this one of the reasons Bush has been pushing for promoting the nuclear weapons in India... So that we have a nuclear-capable ally in the region?

Iran would mount attacks against U.S. targets inside Iraq, where Iranian intelligence agents are already plentiful, predicted these experts. There is also a growing consensus that Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, they said.

Shouldn't we be discussing political, economic and isolation solutions (i.e. embargoes, blockades, etc.) under the umbrella of the UN, the IAEA, and the UN Security Council before we discuss another invasion, pre-emptive strike or another battle front?

U.S. officials would not discuss what evidence they have indicating Iran would undertake terrorist action, but the matter "is consuming a lot of time" throughout the U.S. intelligence apparatus, one senior official said. "It's a huge issue," another said.

What a surprise... The Bush administration is once again keeping us in the dark about something involving "intelligence" and our own national safety. Given the Bush gang's record of incompetency regarding intelligence, we should have SOMEONE checking on them. There should be daily briefings of the "Gang of 8" and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees. We need some way to assure these idiots do not get us into another quagmire... and place our troops in yet more harm's way.

Citing prohibitions against discussing classified information, U.S. intelligence officials declined to say whether they have detected preparatory measures, such as increased surveillance, counter-surveillance or message traffic, on the part of Iran's foreign-based intelligence operatives.

We don't want that type of information. We're not idiots. We want information about how we are prepared to deal with the threats of terrorism, threats of retaliation, and how we are double-checking the idiots running the executive branch.
