Watch Out... AG Gonzalez Is Monitoring YOUR Communications

Warrantless Wiretaps Possible in U.S.

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales left open the possibility yesterday that President Bush could order warrantless wiretaps on telephone calls occurring solely within the United States -- a move that would dramatically expand the reach of a controversial National Security Agency surveillance program.

In response to a question from Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) during an appearance before the House Judiciary Committee, Gonzales suggested that the administration could decide it was legal to listen in on a domestic call without supervision if it were related to al-Qaeda.

"I'm not going to rule it out," Gonzales said.

Despite being the Attorney General, a former Texas Supreme Court judge, and a member of the American Bar Association that condemned the NSA spying programs, Gonzalez still doesn't get the meaning of the Fourth Amendment. There is this little thing called PROBABLE CAUSE... not suspicion, not allegation, not fishing for terrorists (which has been fruitless), but PROBABLE CAUSE.

In the past, Gonzales and other officials refused to say whether they had the legal authority to conduct warrantless eavesdropping on domestic calls, and have stressed that the NSA eavesdropping program is focused only on international communications.

That is because the lying bastard doesn't want to go on record regarding that is exactly what the Bush gang either has been doing, or has been planning to do. No wonder the maniplative lying bastard did not want to appear before congress under oath.
Gonzales previously testified in the Senate that Bush had considered including purely domestic communications in the NSA spying program, but he said the idea was rejected in part because of fears of a public outcry. He also testified at the time that the Justice Department had not fully analyzed the legal issues of such a move.

There has not been enough public outcry. And too many Americans are convinced that the load of manure that the Bush gang has been shoveling about terrorism justifies any type of spying they choose to do. WRONG... and the Constitution says it is wrong.
In yesterday's testimony, Gonzales reiterated earlier hints that there may be another facet to the NSA program that has not been revealed publicly, or even another program that has prompted dissension within the government. While acknowledging disagreements among officials over the monitoring efforts, Gonzales disputed published reports that have detailed the arguments.

In other words, Russel Tice, who did appear before congress under oath, was telling the truth... the warantless domestic spying program has already gone deeper and further than what has been revealed by the Bush gang.

"They did not relate to the program the president disclosed," Gonzales testified. "They related to something else, and I can't get into that."

Yes, AG Gonzalez, you can get into it. Perhaps not in a public session, but you damn well better get into it with the Gang of 8 and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees... because that is what the law requires.

Justice spokeswoman Tasia Scolinos played down Gonzales's remarks, saying he "did not say anything new" about the NSA program.

She's correct... just more of the same old, tired lies, misrepresentations and dastardly deceptions.

On top of all of this, President Bush has admitted that he is responsible for declassifying documents and information related to the Plame ID scandal...

In other words, President Bush inappropriately released information for purely nasty reasons of getting even with someone. Despite what Bush and Cheney have claimed regarding their authority to declassify information, there is a prescribed process for doing so... and they failed to use that process... On top of that, the purposes for which they released the information were entirely dishonest, vindictive, mean spirited, un-American, un-Christian and just plain WRONG... IMMORAL... UNETHICAL... and dangerous from a whole lot of perspectives. Bush is out of control... Impeach the bastard and his gang now.
