The Return Of The Dixie Chicks... Despite The Efforts Of Conservatives
Good Morning America is offering their kick-off summer concert series with the return of the Dixie Chicks. These talented--and attractive--ladies of Country Music have been away from the limelight these past three years because the ultra-conservatives that own radio stations, and the ultra-conservative yahoos that listen to C&W music, refused to allow them paky time on the vast majority of Country genre radio stations. The fact that most of these stations are owned by a handful of Republicans plays into the dynamics. Only one C&W radio station that I know of bothered to pol their listeners for a yea or nay vote (Indiana 105.5) and then ignored the results (it was almost a 50/50 split on the views of their listeners). But they deserve props for at least polling their listeners. However, none of these stations, not the portion of their listeners that voted against the Dixie Chicks being played, practiced American principles or effected American values.
The crux of the bruhaha was that Natalie Maines, the lead singer for the group, had the decency and common sense to criticize Bush and his gang about invading Iraq, lying to us about the justification for doing so, and the continued fiasco that is the fault of our fearless idiot, er, leader.
The fact that these ladies were punished by the ultra-conservatives for speaking their (her) mind on a matter of politics only demonstrates that the right is committed to their views and only their views, with an overwhelming willingness to ostracize anyone that might see things differently. Maines also received death threats from some of these un-American rectal masses.
Well, these ladies are talented musicians and artists. They never deserved to be disrespected in the manner they were treated. Their newest CD is great and they have once again demonstrated their greatness as musicians... and as women of principle that are unwilling to be intimidated, coerced by the recording industry or the radio stations, or forced into kowtowing for the benefit of the almighty dollar.
So, Dixie Chicks, welcome back to the public view... and on behalf of all Americans I would like to apologize for the illegal, immoral and un-American manner in which all three of you were treated.
